Tacama's vineyard was created in the 16th century with vine from Canary Islands. The original objective was to supply wine to different religious orders that were recently established in the City of Kings (Lima, capital of the Peruvian vice royalty). Since then, its consumption was associated to health and a better quality of life far away from diseases. After that, in 1776, a protectionist measure from Spain prohibited Peruvian wine exports, which promoted its DISTILLATION, and that is how PISCO was created, a typical Peruvian grape liquor that was an option for Peruvian winemakers.
