“Quality is born in the vineyard” is the fundamental maxim of the winery.
Bodegas San Alejandro is a cooperative founded in 1962, located in the tiny village of Miedes (situated in the DO of Calatayud).
The bodega is an excellent example of a Spanish cooperative that is obsessive about the autochthonous varieties without forgetting the Mediterranean varieties, which results in a production of powerful, modern red, rosé and white wines with a strong varietal expression.
The wines come from grapes grown on vines that are more than a 100 years old - transmit the typicity of the native soil from which they come, and where fruit prevails over wood. What is really important to this producer is to achieve wines that are elegant and balanced, where aging provides complexity, but never to the detriment of the fruit.
Paramount in the philosophy in winemaking is keeping intervention to a minimum, with no filtrations or clarifications in the high-end wines.
